Bio-informatics expert
Your task: build a database of bioactive peptides and related information in collaboration with PharmaDM and an academic bio-informatics group. Mine the human and mouse genome for potentially bioactive peptides. Assist IriDM life scientists with general bioinformatics questions and in using the aforesaid database. Identify novel ways to apply bioinformatics to help IriDM achieve its goals.
Your profile: an advanced (Ph.D. or engineering) degree in life sciences or bioinformatics, with extensive experience in the use of sequence and other biological databases. Dynamic and independent. Good communication with life scientists as well as IT experts is essential. Familiarity with PERL scripting and data mining is highly desirable. Prior work on G-protein-coupled receptors and industrial experience are a plus.
- Database administrator
Your task: help build a database of bioactive peptides and related information in collaboration with PharmaDM and an academic bio-informatics group. Integrate internal (IriDM proprietary) as well as external (public domain) databases with the aforesaid database. Maintain and expand the database over time. Keep database documentation current. Help develop a database interface for life scientists. Install and maintain local biological databases and associated hard- and software, and provide user support for these. Advise on future hardware and software purchases.
Your profile: experienced Oracle database expert, familiar with Access. Meticulous and independent. Good communication skills with life scientists and IT experts are essential. Familiarity with public domain sequence and biological databases as well as a basic understanding of (molecular) biology are highly desirable. Prior experience with data mining and an industrial setting are assets
